Visa requirements for EU, EEA and Switzerland

When you have accepted an unconditional offer to study with us, it is time to consider your visa. This page explains the different visas you might need. There is also information on the visa application process. Plus, a list of FAQs will help answer any questions you may have.
Required documents for students from the EU, EEA and Switzerland
The majority of EU, EEA and Swiss students will require a valid passport, alongside either a Standard Visitor Visa or a Student Route Visa.
Below we explain who doesn’t need a valid passport to apply to study with us. You can then find out what visa you need, and the supporting documents required.
A valid passport
Most EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can only travel to the UK using a valid passport. Exceptions apply if citizens have:
- Applied to the EU Settlement Scheme or have an application pending

A visa support letter should outline your study period in the UK. When you have accepted your offer to study at Ji8¸£ÀûÍø, your faculty student office will provide you with one. You should carry the visa support letter with you when you enter the UK.

EU students with pre-settled or settled status
If you are from the EU and have been granted pre-settled or settled status, you do not need a visa to study in the UK. However, you might still need to prove your immigration status. For example, employers and landlords will need proof of your status.
How to prove your pre-settled or settled status
- To view and prove your immigration status, you will need to go to create an account on gov.uk website. Setting up an account will enable you to:
- Get a ‘share code’ to prove your status to others
- Update personal details in your UK Visas and Immigration account
- Check what rights you have in the UK
What you need to create an account:
- Details of the identity document you used when applying for your status (e.g., your passport, national identity card or biometric residence card)
- Your date of birth
- Access to the mobile number or email address you used when you made your application
Who can use the ‘share code’ service:
You can use the ‘share code’ service if you applied for a visa and used the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ app to scan your identity document.
You cannot use this service if you use a vignette in your passport or a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) to prove your immigration status.
