Request your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
What is a CAS and why do I need it?
The CAS is an electronic record the university produces for the Home Office. A CAS is required for your Student Visa application.
We will produce a CAS for you and email you your CAS number and CAS statement. On the statement we will list the information that has been sent to the UK Visas and Immigration Department (UKVI). You will need this information to make your Student Visa application.
You cannot make a Student Visa application without a CAS. Therefore, we suggest you apply for your CAS as soon as you receive an unconditional offer to study with us.
How do I get a CAS?
Once you have accepted an unconditional offer to study a full-time course at Ji8¸£ÀûÍø, you need to request a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
The CAS application process below applies to applications made from overseas.
If you are making a CAS application from within the UK, the process is slightly different. Your CAS request will only be accepted in you meet the Student Route visa requirements and can submit your student visa application before the 'stage two' enrolment specific to your course.
All postgraduate taught (masters) applicants who require a Student Visa must pay a £5,000 non-refundable deposit before requesting their CAS.
The deposit is treated as part of the first instalment of your tuition fee.
You do not have to pay the non-refundable deposit if:
- You are on a Masters by Research MPhil/PhD programme
- You are an undergraduate student
- You do not require a Student Route Visa to study at Ji8¸£ÀûÍø
- Your studies are being sponsored by your government or a company (evidence of your sponsorship must be provided)
- You are receiving funding or a student loan from LÃ¥nekassen, US Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Canada Student Financial Assistance Program (CSFA Program) (evidence must be provided)
How to pay your deposit
You can still submit a CAS request without paying your deposit. However, we cannot issue your final CAS until we have received this payment.
The quickest way to pay is by debit or credit card via the Kingston University London Payment Portal.
If you require a receipt or have any questions about payment, contact the finance team on [email protected].
After you have paid the postgraduate deposit (if applicable), . Select the 'Your Visa' tab and then click ‘Request a CAS'.
We will ask you the following:
- If you are studying or have previously studied on a student visa in the UK
- If you have had any previous UK visa refusals*
- If you have any other pending applications with UKVI
- If your studies are either partially or fully funded by a scholarship, organisation or government
*You must tell us about any previous visa refusals. You will need to upload scanned copies of the refusal notice (or other confirmation) onto OSIS. We run through how to upload your supporting documents to OSIS below.
You will be asked to upload supporting documents to OSIS. Our CAS team will assess the uploaded documents to ensure they meet UKVI requirements. The CAS team will contact you via email if they require any additional documents or information.
If you are considered a low-risk national (LRN), you are exempt from providing these documents. To find out if this applies to you, read our information on LRN and the Differentiation Arrangement.
If you are not exempt, the documents you need to upload are listed below.
Financial documents
You must show you have enough money to pay your course fees and living costs while studying in the UK. Evidence can be provided by uploading a bank statement or other relevant supporting documentation.
Your supporting documents must show the full amount required held for a consecutive 28-day period. The full amount needed will be your first-year course fees, plus £13,347 maintenance funds. At no time can the funds dip below the total amount required.
A bank statement should:
- Be printed on the 29th day
- Show the closing balance on the account (the date on the statement should be no more than 31 days before the date you submit your student visa application)
You can show you have enough money using:
- An official financial or government sponsorship or grant
- A student loan from a government, government-sponsored loan company or a regulated student loans scheme
- Your own money
- Your parents' money*
- Your partner's money if your partner is present in the UK or applying at the same time
*If using your parents' bank statements, you must include a letter of support from your parents and proof of the relationship (such as a birth certificate).
For more details, view our information on providing financial evidence for CAS applications.
Tuberculosis (TB) certificate
You will need a tuberculosis (TB) medical certificate if you are a resident of one of the countries listed on this Tuberculosis tests for visa applicants list.
You must be tested for your certificate at an approved UKVI clinic. Some countries don't have approved testing centres, so you will need to get tested in a neighbouring country.
If you are a resident from a country requiring a TB certificate, you will be exempt if:
- You have resided in a country for at least six months that does not require a TB certificate
- You are coming to the UK for less than six months
ATAS certificate
Students intending to study certain science or engineering subjects at postgraduate level (RQF7) will need to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate. If this applies to your course, it will be stated in your offer letter.
You can apply for an ATAS certificate up to nine months before the start date of your course. For more guidance, find out how to apply for an ATAS certificate.

Here is how you can confirm your details:
- Log in to OSIS
- Go to the ‘Your Visa’ page
- Click ‘View draft CAS against your CAS request form’
- Check each section is correct

The CAS statement is an 'e-document', so you will not receive a paper copy.
The processing time for a CAS is between 3-5 working days. During our busy periods, it could take longer.
You can apply for your student visa once you have received your final CAS statement.

Providing financial evidence for CAS applications
Nationals of some countries do not need to provide evidence of their money when they apply for a CAS. These students are known as low-risk nationals (LRN).
LRN also do not need to provide evidence of their qualifications or their money when they initially apply for a student visa. UKVI refer to this as the ‘differentiation agreement’.
If you are an LRN, you must sign a declaration confirming you understand you are being assessed for your CAS as an LRN.
To see if your nationality is included in the differentiation agreement, view the UKVI list.
Low risk nationals and financial evidence
If you are a national of one of the countries listed, you do not need to submit financial evidence as part of your initial application submission.
However, you must still obtain evidence of your finances even though you do not have to initially submit them. Evidence is still needed because UKVI can request to see it as part of their decision process. Your application could be refused if you are not able to provide the specified documents within the requested timeframe.
You will also still need to provide any other required documents, such as ATAS or a TB certificate, unless you are otherwise exempt from needing to do so.
If your studies are being funded (partially or fully) by a scholarship, international organisation or government, you will need to inform us when you request your CAS. You will be asked about funding on the CAS request form in OSIS.
Loan letters must state the loan is offered in one of the following ways:
- Provided by the national government
- Provided by the state or regional government
- Provided by a government-sponsored student loan company
- Provides as part of an academic or educational loans scheme
You may want to pay some of your tuition fees or halls of residence fees in advance. We can confirm the following pre-payments on your CAS:
- You have paid up to 100% of your tuition fees
- You have paid up to £1,483 of your halls of residence fees (you can pay more, but this is the maximum we can confirm on your CAS)
If you make a pre-payment before requesting your CAS, the amount will be deducted from the overall financial requirement you need to show in your financial documents.
We can only include details of your pre-payments on your CAS statement if you make the payment before requesting your CAS.
How to use your CAS when applying for a student visa
You should include a copy of your CAS statement with your student visa application.
When you complete your student visa application form, you will need to refer to your CAS statement. The information you state on your visa application form is checked against the information listed on your CAS statement.
This information you will need from your CAS statement includes:
- 14-digit reference number (known as your CAS number) containing a mixture of letters and numbers
- Kingston Sponsor Licence Number (SLN)
- Start and end dates of your course
- Title of your course
- Tuition fees for first year of your course (if your CAS has been issued for an extension at Kingston, the "first year of study" means the first year of this new period)
- Tuition fees you have already paid to Ji8¸£ÀûÍø
- Accommodation fees you have already paid to Ji8¸£ÀûÍø (up to £1,334)
- Academic qualifications we used to make you an offer to study at Ji8¸£ÀûÍø
- Assessment of your English language ability, including any formal qualifications
- Confirmation of any previous study in the UK on a student visa.
Ways to try and avoid a visa refusal
Having a CAS does not guarantee you will be successful in securing a student visa. Ji8¸£ÀûÍø is not responsible for decisions made by the Home Office. We will not accept liability for any student failing to obtain a visa and/or for any loses incurred.
Here are some ways to try and avoid visa refusal:
- A CAS is only valid for six months from the date it is issued. Therefore, you need to apply for your student visa as soon as you receive your CAS.
- When you make your student visa application you must include all the original documents stated on your CAS. Failure to do so could result in a visa refusal. (If you are a low-risk national, you do not need to submit original documents.)
- If you are applying for your student visa from inside the UK, your course must start within 28 days of your current visa expiry date.
- If your current visa is due to expire soon or has expired, you should contact the CAS team urgently.
