Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework
Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework is all about supporting our community and creating an inclusive environment for students. Find out how it impacts our whole University here.

What is the Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework?
Creating a supportive and inclusive environment for our students.
Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework is how we create a supportive, inclusive environment where students can access services, activities and interventions to help them succeed.
It aligns with the Student Minds , and aims to:
- Prioritise our community’s health and wellbeing
- Encourage healthy behaviours
- Embed health and wellbeing into the curriculum
- Govern support services safely
- Care for students and staff
- Listen and empower students
- Support students in a way that suits them
- Improve services through research and evaluation
Taking a whole-University approach
Our framework is split into four themes: Learn, Support, Work and Live. This aligns with the University Mental Health Charter and the model.

A whole-university approach must include both adequately resourced, effective and accessible mental health services and proactive interventions. It must provide an environment and culture that reduces poor mental health, as well as supporting good mental health, and facilitating staff and students to develop insight, understanding and skills to manage and maintain their own wellbeing.
How we work with external providers
We do everything we can to support students with internal services, but sometimes we need to work with outside organisations to provide the best possible experience.
For complex health or risk factors, emergencies and crises, we help students access the relevant services outside our university. They might include:
- Specialist charities
- Third sector organisations
- Statutory services
- The NHS
- Local authorities
How and when we share information
If a student is a risk to themselves or others, we will inform relevant emergency services to enable appropriate intervention.
We will always gain explicit consent before involving a student’s emergency contact. The only exception is when we need to protect vital interests in an emergency.
