Student behaviour
Kingston University students make up a large part of the community, and we expect them to be respectful at all times. Check out our guidelines for behaviour and complaints.

What we expect of Kingston students
As a Kingston University student, you should respect the local community by:
- Keeping noise to a minimum in residential areas at night
- Keeping music to a respectable level
- Letting your neighbours know about parties in advance
If you cause noise or engage in antisocial behaviour, you could face disciplinary action. We’ve partnered with Kingston Council to create a full set of guidance on being a considerate neighbour. .
How to complain
If you live in Kingston and experience antisocial behaviour or problems with noise from University students, there are several ways you can get help.

Complaints about privately-managed households
If you have problems with privately rented student households, we don’t have any legal power to intervene – but we can investigate and decide whether to take further action.
As soon as problems arise, you should take the following steps:
- Speak to your student neighbours, explain the impact and try to come to a compromise.
- If the problem continues, contact the landlord or letting agent that manages the property. They will be able to take appropriate action.
- If things don’t improve, contact Kingston Council’s environmental health department, either by visiting their or by calling 020 8547 5002
- In the case of serious disturbances, call the Police Safer Neighbourhood Team on 0300 123 1212, or dial 999 if there is a health and safety risk.
Contacting us
Feel free to get in touch with us at any point during the process. We will investigate the complaint and take further action if it’s appropriate. We can also offer a mediation service for long-standing disputes.
If you’re not sure whether or not we manage a property, please contact our Headed Tenancy Department on +44 (0)20 8417 7311 or email [email protected].
