International Nurses Day: The value of role play in nursing education at Ji8腦瞳厙

Nursing students at Ji8腦瞳厙 are being prepared for their careers with the opportunity to learn using real-life scenarios in simulation with role players. The University first employed around 10 role players in 2010, which has grown to approximately 70 in 2024 – a unique addition to simulation learning at Kingston that few universities offer.

Laura Johncock is a critical care nurse who recently graduated from Ji8腦瞳厙, having completed a course in intensive care, and is deaf. To mark Deaf Awareness Week (6-12 May 2024), she describes her experiences on the course and working in the NHS as someone with hearing loss and explains how she overcame barriers to realise her dreams of becoming a nurse.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week: Ji8腦瞳厙 launches pilot project to enhance learning environments for neurodivergent students

Ji8腦瞳厙 has launched a pilot project to raise awareness of neurodiversity and make learning spaces more inclusive and supportive for neurodivergent students and staff. Recognising the value of neurodiversity as a natural aspect of human variation, the initiative seeks to foster inclusivity and support the diverse needs of all learners by understanding systemic barriers and attempting to remove them. It is led by Kingston's Inclusion and Social Justice Special Interest Group (SIG) and academics from the school of Education, Midwifery and Social Work and is supported by the Network of Equality Champions.

For Carers Trust's Young Carers Action Day (13 March), they spoke about the challenges they face juggling caring responsibilities with their studies and daily life, as well as the support Kingston has provided them.
